About me

I like photography. I love photography.
I am interested to take photographs of objects, buildings, monuments, and people.

I am an amateaur photographer. I am based in Milano, Italy and I started recently to have an interest in photography. I try to have a style as simple and classic as I can.

I like particularly Black and White photography.Colour photographs are very beautiful, interesting. But, in this age of inflation of colour images I find that Black and White photographs have their allure. The must beautiful colour photographs are those where the colour prevails over the subject.
The colour is a source of a source of distraction and attracts the attention of the viewer more than its content. The communicativeness of the image gains in Black and White photography.

I do not want to appears as a nostalgic of the Black and White photography. I find that taking photographs in Blac and White has its charm. In this age of profusion of colour pictures, taking Black and White photographs in analogue as well as in digital it is not only going back to something classic, but it is also to produce images that have a style, that give a representation of the reality, but they do this emphasizing forms, shadows, volumes, textures of the materials, patterns, silouhettes, spatial depth, elements that the colours cannot convey for their own nature.

We perceive instinctively a colour photograph like a copy of the reality, whereas the lack of colour leaves more room for the imagination and makes a photograph more abstract. These are characteristics belonging to the works of art. Moreover, a Black and White photograph can also be as emotional as artistic.

When I talk about Black and White photography, I am not thinking of a photograph taken in digital and converted into Black and White, but of a photograph "designed" in Black and White before clicking the shutter-release button. Actually, I believe that subject, light, perspective and composition have to be chosen for a Black and White shot when the forms, the tones and the contrasts can be emphasized so that light effects and shadow senhance forms and lines in the scene. In a nutshell, a scene, a subject should be "seen" in Black and White before taking the photograph.

I like as well Street Photography. Loving Street Photography means, for example, to love the lack of control that you must have in a studio, where everything needs to be planned, to be under control, lights, camera setting, subject, clothes. being immediate, real and can be storytelling, and artistic. Street Photography allows to snap people who express emotions, who show relations, who are busy with all kinds of activities. Street photography has the advantage of catching one or more subjects in spontaneous behaviours.

Certainly, practicing Street Photography presents some peculiarities since we can take photographs without being seen from our subject while we are handling a camera or we can take photographs of people who are fully aware of what we are doing. From the choice of the first or the second way of shooting photographs in the street obviously, depends the choice of the best camera and of the lens more suitable to achieve our aim, i.e a DSLR with a zoom lens or a rangefinder with a wide angle ( in my opinion the latter one is the best choice).

Taking photographs in the street means using the shutter speed, diaphragm, ISO at one's best, but it does not mean to avoid or to break the rules of photography (composition, rule of thirds, golden section, depth of field, bokeh, perspective, guidelines, simmetries, panning). But, there is nothing to prevent us from using particular techniques (motion blur, out of focus, hyperfocal focusing). Rather still, Street Photography involves to treasure all these techniques and rules.

Clearly, the towns are very suitable for this genre of photography. The photographic opportunities in a town are almost infinite: the subjects can be people, cars, shops, windows, lighting: the different lights, depending on the hour of the day, especially in theevening or in the night, are interesting occasions of good photographs.Whit the use  of Photoshop, Lightroom or any other software, a more or less sophisticated technology, beautiful, wonderful "images" can be produced. Even though they are done with skill (i.e., using cameras and lenses representing the state-of-the art of the modern tecnology, and with an excellent knowledge of the photo graphic techniques), sometimes the photographs are modified utterly, altering the original scene with far-fetched, unlikely colours.

Obviously, this is my opinion, and in this discussion I am not including those who take photographs for work reasons like the professional photographers in the different genres and in particular the fashion photographers, whose intent is to attract charmingly the attention of the viewer.
My intention is to take a photograph, using shutter speed, diaphragm, ISO, at my best, and print it, or show it on a screen of a computer, a tablet or any other device without modifying it radically, and possibly to "capture thefleeting moment"  (the "decisive moment"), that particular moment, for which, once passed by a photograph becomes a simple reproduction of the reality.
So that's me. I hope that those people, who will have time and patience to have a look at my website, will enjoy the view of my photographs, hoping they can appreciate the time and effort I put into my shots.
